•After your first draft, go back and read through your paper backwards, sentence by sentence. Can each sentence stand alone?
•Read your paper out loud (yes, audibly). Listen to yourself.
•Read your paper out loud to a kind friend. Watch his/her reaction to your words.
•Find ways to incorporate logical words. Use words like if/then, therefore, however, since, etc.
•Do not always avoid question marks. Have you ever noticed that you can make a fantastic point by posing a question?
•Save your work multiple times, in multiple formats, and in multiple locations. When writing my dissertation, I would save about every 5 minutes (literally) because it was so long. I saved it locally on the hard drive, on a thumb drive I still have, and I e-mailed it to myself. Today, I would also recommend setting up yourself a Dropbox account and saving things there as well.
•When in doubt about what you are submitting, ask for feedback. Alternatively, submit the work and expect that you will be told what to change. Being told that something you did was wrong is not calling you inferior. If you need to change what you did, then humbly accept it and make the changes.
